Business Economics and Public Policy
The Business Economics and Public Policy department offers a wide range of courses for students interested in the role of economics in business, competition and public policy. Their courses specialize in market structure and competition, insurance and risk management, behavioral economics and more. BEPP courses are essential for students planning a career in consulting, the public sector, industries with a high social impact factor, and anyone with a general interest in how economics interacts with policy and politics.
Finance
Wharton’s finance department helps develops the skills necessary to work at a high level of expertise in all areas of finance, including: asset management and financial markets; investment banking in a global context; the financial management of commercial and industrial enterprises as well as of financial institutions; the financial aspects of venture capital, mergers and acquisitions; and global management consulting.
Health Care Management
The Health Care Management Department is Wharton’s base for education and innovative thinking related to the business, management and policy of health care services, health care technology, and health care financing. The department is a vital community of internationally renowned scholars who have spent their careers following the evolution of health care services and technology, domestically and globally, and researching important management and economic questions arising from all aspects of this complex enterprise.
Management
To be successful in a changing global economy, managers must view the total enterprise and understand the forces shaping the firm’s direction, policies, and goals and at the same time exercise personal leadership in managing employees.Wharton’s Management Department applies basic social science disciplines and research methods to these management and leadership problems in the public and private sectors.
Marketing
For strategic decision-makers in the private and public sectors, “marketing” describes a fundamental approach to general management decision-making and a necessary set of business functions. Business people trained in marketing can provide critical input in such areas as markets, competitors, and portfolios of operating technologies. As such, the field of marketing is a valuable preparation for many types of management careers, including consulting, entrepreneurial management, line management, and for those who have future interests in starting their own business.
Operations, Information and Decisions
The Operations, Information and Decisions Department is a world leader in the education and research of operations management, information systems, and judgment and decision making. It seeks to improve the quality and productivity of enterprises through training and a better understanding of operational strategies, product development and innovation, information systems and technology, rigorous data analytics, and individual and managerial decision making.
Statistics
Statistics courses develop the skills and insights required to make effective use of quantitative methods. They provide the knowledge needed to select and apply techniques and to communicate statistical results. Interpretation in realistic applications offers guiding examples; theory is used to generate and compare alternative schemes.
