The Wharton Sports Analytics and Business Initiative (WSABI), with support from the Wharton Global Youth Program, is approaching the end game of the Wharton High School Data Science Competition: Soccer Playoff Predictions!
Using comprehensive data from a simulated professional soccer league, teams of high school students from around the world have been crunching the numbers since February 2024 and making win-loss predictions about the league’s playoffs. A total of 25 semifinalists were selected to submit slide presentations on March 22 (see box below).
From that group, WSABI recently selected the top six teams advancing to the competition’s first finals, which will be held virtually on Wednesday, April 3. The finalist teams (in alphabetical order) that will present to the judges are:
- CR North, Council Rock North High School, Newtown, Pennsylvania
- FC TAMS, Texas Academy of Mathematics & Science, Denton, Texas
- HW_AnalyticsFC, Harvard-Westlake School, Studio City, California
- MVHS Analytics, Mountain View High School, Mountain View, California
- SMGolden State Analytics, Santa Margarita Catholic, Rancho Santa Margarita, California
- STEM Wolves, Downingtown STEM Academy, Downingtown, Pennsylvania
Stay tuned to the WSABI website and Wharton Global Youth social media for the announcement of the winners of the first-ever Wharton High School Data Science Competition: Soccer Playoff Predictions.
